COMMANDER MAX GUNNARSSON, PhD
Max was born, raised and educated in Córdoba, Nueva Argentina, Azul. He gets his lycan DNA from his mother, Clarisa, a retired university professor. Max grew up believing Dr. Charles Gunnarsson (deceased) was his biological father. His true biological father, however, is quite a different being.
He acquired three Masters Degrees and his PhD by the time he was twenty-three, and went on to discover Side Space - humanity's only-known means of traveling faste- than -ight, as well as develop the SSCC hook drive. Disobeying his superiors, he built his own Side Space-enabled shuttle and returned to Earth, which he found to be a near-dead planet, destroyed by the Vrol. It is there he meets Draagh, his estranged grandfather. Draagh reveals Max's lineage to him, and makes him wait until Luigi Bagatelle and Jennie Escalante arrive at Earth in his pursuit, intending to take him back to Azul to face charges of treason, sedition and theft of government property.
LIEUTENANT JENNIFER ESCALANTE
Adopted as a toddler, Jennie was raised in Buenos Aires, Nueva Argentina, knowing that the Escalantes were not her biological parents, but believing she resided in the city of her birth. An excellent athlete, her guardians forbade her from participating in athletics, or even dating until she had left for the university. Upon graduating from the university, she entered the naval academy, against her adoptive parents' wishes. She is unaware of her relationship to Admiral Luigi Bagatelle.
After years of searching, Bagatelle performed an illegal DNA scan for Jennie, finding her right as she graduated from the naval academy. Not revealing their relationship to her, due to the anti-nepotism statutes in Azul System law, he put her under his command so he could keep an eye on her.
Jennie is also unaware that she has a hidden component in her genome: she is the descendant of ancient lycans.
REAR ADMIRAL LLUIGI BAGATELLE
The youngest person to ever reach the rank of rear admiral, Luigi Bagatelle commands the newest battle cruiser in the ADF space fleet, the ADV REVOLUTION. It is also the only one equipped with an SSCC hook drive. This enabled him to pursue Dr. Max Gunnarsson after the latter fled Azul space in his own cobbled-up shuttle craft. He is secretly related to Lt. Jennie Escalante, but has so far kept this a secret from her, instead keeping her under his command until Azul's anti-nepotism statutes have been rescinded.
Like Lt. Escalante, Admiral Bagatelle is also the descendant of ancient lycans. And like the woman, he is also unaware of his special nature.
DRAAGH
Mysterious, immortal, Draagh has been in existence since the creation of the Universe. When Max arrives at Earth, Draagh drops in and takes the young scientist on a world tour, showing him what really happened to the wrecked planet, and then forces Max to wait for Bagatelle and Escalante.
Because Draagh has a plan to save the human species, along with some other enhanced subspecies...
Unbeknownst at first to Max, Draagh is his biological grandfather. This will provide Max with some pretty amazing abilities... when he figures it all out, that is.
